Dharmanagar, North Tripura, 15th of August, 2026 : The state-level Sukanta Birth Anniversary program was held with due dignity at Vivekananda Sardha-Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Dharmanagar, North Tripura district on Friday (14th August, 2026). Hon’ble Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma inaugurated the program. Speaking at the event, organized by the School Education Department, Industries Minister Santana Chakma said that poet Sukanta Bhattacharya left behind extraordinary creations in a very short span of life on earth. Through his literature and poetry, poet Sukanta Bhattacharya emerged as the voice of the exploited and deprived people of society and awakened the youth of that era.

The minister said that students and the youth are the future of our country. It is our great responsibility to give the right direction to the diverse talents inherent in students and to help nurture them. Special attention must be paid to ensuring that this talent is not lost in any way and can be beautifully developed through proper nurturing, because it is through the proper development of the talent and energy of the youth that our country and society will move forward rapidly on the path of progress. She further said that to take the country to the pinnacle of progress, one must love the country deeply and must know about our rich culture and heritage. She said that it is our Indian culture that awakens patriotism among the youth, which is the main inspiration for taking the country forward.

Also present at the event that day were Chairperson of the North Tripura Zilla Parishad Aparna Nath, MLA Jahar Chakraborty, Vice-Chairperson of the Zilla Parishad Bhabatosh Das, Chairperson of the Dharmanagar Municipal Council Mitali Rani Das Sen, District Education Officer of North Tripura district Firanjan Tripura, Joint Director of the District Information and Culture Office Ripon Chakma, special speaker and former headmaster Ripon Chakraborty, and former headmaster Gurupada Chakraborty, among others.

At the Sukanta Birth Anniversary program, students from various schools of the district performed recitations, music, and dance. A tree plantation was held on the premises of Vivekarianda Sardha-Shatabarshiki Bhavan. At the event, schools of North Tripura district that achieved a hundred percent success rate in the Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations were felicitated. A total of 29 such schools of the district were felicitated at the event. The guests present at the program handed over these honours to the headmasters of the schools.
