Agartala, Tripura, 26th of June, 2025: Tripura Pioneers Youth-Led Disaster Preparedness Training for NCC Cadets Tripura has started the first batch a structured, impact-based training program for NCC cadets under the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS), a flagship initiative of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The inaugural batch of 400 NCC cadets from the 13th Bn NCC commenced their one-week training program today at the Saheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel, Agartala, setting a new benchmark for youth engagement in disaster management.

This training marks a significant step in the state’s ambitious plan to train 1,754 community volunteers from NCC, NSS, NYKS, and Bharat Scouts and Guides by March 2026. The NCC cadets alone account for 800 of the total volunteers to be trained.
Speaking at the inauguration, Col. Rajashekhar, Commandant, 13 Bn, NCC, highlighted that Tripura is the first state to implement this kind of specialized, segregated training, which aligns with the program’s standard structure. Dr. Sarat Kumar Das, SPO-DM, stressed the vital role of youth in disaster management specific to NCC, while Ms. JV Duati, Director, RR&DM, shed light on the program’s legal framework and its broader societal impact, including addressing issues like drug addiction. The training was officially inaugurated by Shri Cairy Marak, IGP, Tripura, who praised the NCC’s commitment to community building and disaster risk reduction.
A key feature of the YAMS is the comprehensive support provided to the trained volunteers. Following the program, each participant will receive a certificate, an Emergency Responder Kit (ERK) valued at ₹10,000, insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh, and a valid identity card.

The training is being conducted with technical assistance from the Tripura Disaster Management Authority, with expert trainers from the Central Training Institute, NDRF, Tripura Fire & Emergency Services, and Aapda Mitra Master Trainers. The current batch’s training will conclude on July 3, 2025, with the second batch of 400 NCC cadets scheduled for September 2025. This initiative is a testament to Tripura’s proactive approach to building a disaster-resilient community from the ground up, empowering its youth to be the first responders in times of crisis.
