Two Day Long National Seminar Initiated.

Amarpur, Tripura, 28th of February 2026 : With the initiative of Government Degree College, Khumulwng in collaboration with Society for Social Empowerment, New Delhi a two-day long National Seminar with inaugural session on 27th February 2026 has been initiated here in GDC in Khumulwng on Friday (27th February, 2026). The seminar is jointly sponsored by the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Kolkata and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, New Delhi. The Act East Policy (AEP) has fundamentally repositioned Northeast India from a isolated periphery to a central pillar of India’s strategic and economic engagement with Southeast Asia. Its impact is profound and multi-dimensional, fostering connectivity, economic growth, and cultural exchange, while also presenting new challenges. The most tangible impact of the Act East Policy on Northeast India is the aggressive push for connectivity. This is breaking the region’s historical isolation and integrating it with Southeast Asia.

The Inaugural Session was presided over by Prof. Basavaraju, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi as the chief guest. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dipankar Sengupta from the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies. Prof. R.C. Sinha, the former Chairman, Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi was the guest of honour in the event. Dr. Sudhir Singh, Director of Society for Social Empowerment, New Delhi, Dr. Sabu Thomas, faculty from Kerala was present in the inaugural program. The Presidential address was delivered by Dr. Bhupendra Debbarma, Principal In-Charge of GDC, Khumulwng. Sri Daniel Debbarma, Assistant Professor, the local coordinator of the seminar delivered the vote of thanks during the inaugural session.

The technical session was participated by various scholars from across the country of different universities. During the technical session Dr. Debashis Chakraborty, Professor, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata presented his paper on “Look East to Act East”. Dr. Mohor Chakraborty, Assistant Professor in Political Science, South Calcutta Girls’ College Kolkata, India presented on India’s ‘Act East’ and Indo-Pacific Policies, Perspectives, Challenges and Opportunities. Dr. Sudeshna Mitra, Associate Professor in Political Science, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College Howrah, West Bengal presented her paper on “Look East to Act East.” Dr. Mridusmita Baruah Assistant Professor Department of English, Dyal Singh Evening College, University of Delhi presented her paper on “Assamese language as a catalyst of growth on the road map of Act East Policy Progression”. Dr. Karuna Singh, Asst. Professor, Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Goa presented her paper on “India’s Foreign Policy and Act East Policy. An Experiment in Display of Soft Power”. Dr. Anushree Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, Vidyasagar College For Women, University of Calcutta presented her paper on “whose story sells better: Assessing recent Indian foreign policy choices”. The seminar witnessed active participation from academicians, researchers, and scholars from across the country, including delegates from New Delhi. Amidst the other distinguished participants there were Dr. Goutam Chakma, Associate professor, dept. of Political Science, Tripura University, (C.U) Dr. Vanlalmuana Darlong, Assistant Professor, dept. of Political Science, T.U have presented their views over ‘Act East Policy.’
