Khowai, Tripura, 4th of September, 2026 : A competitive player selection process was organized in Khowai district with the aim of forming district-level football teams comprising boys under the age of 17. One team will be formed from each district. With this objective, the player selection process was inaugurated through a special programme at the synthetic football ground at Subhash Park in Khowai on Thursday (3rd September, 2026).
Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Khowai District Football Association President Samir Kumar Das, Khowai Zilla Parishad Chairperson Aparna Singh Roy, Khowai Youth Affairs and Sports Department officials Dibakar Debnath and Biswajit Deb Sarkar, along with other distinguished dignitaries were present at the event.
Addressing at the event, Khowai District Football Association President Samir Kumar Das highlighted the importance of identifying talented footballers at the under-17 level. He said such initiatives would provide talented players from remote areas of the district with an opportunity to showcase their skills. He added that the initiative would play an important role in helping these young players reach higher levels through proper training and nurturing in the future.
He also added that the formation of district-level teams would help foster a competitive spirit among the players. He expressed hope that more talented footballers would emerge from Khowai district in the days ahead.
The player selection process witnessed considerable enthusiasm and excitement among sports enthusiasts and young footballers. The organizers hope that the initiative will help identify new talent at the under-17 level and further strengthen Khowai district’s representation in football across the state.
