Khowai, Tripura, 12th of October, 2026 : A youth identified as Jayanta Debnath was detained by plainclothes police during a raid in the M Bazar area near Radhanagar Stand in Khowai on Sunday (11th October, 2026) evening. The operation reportedly took place at around 6 pm as part of the police’s efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the area.
According to police sources, 50 containers of suspected illegal brown sugar were allegedly recovered from the youth’s possession during the operation. The recovery has raised concerns over the alleged circulation of narcotic substances in Khowai and its surrounding areas.
Police sources further alleged that Jayanta Debnath had been involved in drug trafficking for a considerable period. However, the allegations are yet to be established through the legal process.
Meanwhile, the police have initiated the process of taking necessary legal action in connection with the incident. Further details regarding the investigation and the seized substances are awaited.
