Dharmanagar, Tripura, 12th of June 2026 : Twenty-four cattle recovered from a dense forest in the Roua area of Panisagar subdivision in North Tripura were handed over to Panisagar Police on Thursday morning by personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) 199 Battalion.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off, BSF personnel conducted a search operation in the Roua forest area on Wednesday. During the operation, they recovered 24 cattle that had been suspiciously kept hidden in the jungle. Preliminary investigations suggest that the animals were being stored there with the intention of smuggling them across the international border into Bangladesh.
At around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, the recovered cattle were formally handed over to Panisagar Police. Officer-in -Charge of Panisagar Police Station, Ashutosh Sharma, stated that the 24 cattle had been sent to a shelter home following the prescribed legal procedures.Police have launched an investigation to identify those involved in the incident. Sources said that BSF and police have further intensified joint surveillance in the border areas to prevent cattle smuggling and other cross-border illegal activities.
