Dharmanagar, Tripura, 12th of June 2026 : An international political issue involving a Caribbean island nation found its way onto the streets of Dharmanagar in North Tripura on Thursday (11th June, 2026).

Protesting the long-standing U.S. economic embargo on Cuba, the Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] organized a protest rally in the town. Carrying red flags, party workers and supporters marched through several important roads of Dharmanagar, raising slogans against the embargo. The rally was attended by CPI(M) North Tripura District Secretary Abhijit Dey, State Committee Member Durgesh Roy, Sub- Divisional Secretary Ratan Roy, and several other district and sub-divisional leaders and activists.

Addressing the gathering after the rally, Abhijit Dey stated that the economic embargo imposed on Cuba is not merely a political tool to pressure a nation but has severely affected the lives of ordinary people. He claimed that shortages of food, medicines, and essential commodities have caused prolonged hardship for the Cuban population. He further noted that the majority of countries in the international community, including the United Nations General Assembly, have repeatedly expressed support for lifting the embargo.

However, the continued stance of the U.S. administration has drawn criticism worldwide. According to him, the Dharmanagar rally was part of this broader global protest movement.Left leaders said the programme was organized to express solidarity with the people of Cuba and to reaffirm their opposition to imperialism.Political observers believe that this rally, centered on an international issue, holds particular significance in Dharmanagar’s political landscape and reflects the continuing engagement of local political groups with global affairs.
