Dharmanagar, Tripura, 28th of March 2026 : A fresh wave of political defections has hit the state’s political landscape. Today, a total of 189 voters from 75 families across various parts of the Damchhara –Jampui ADC area formally joined the Indian National Congress, leaving their previous political affiliations.The joining program sparked heightened political excitement in the region. It is that during a special event, local Congress leaders welcomed the new members by handing over party flags.
Addressing the gathering, the leaders claimed that under the current political situation, people are increasingly placing their trust in Congress as an alternative force—something reflected in this mass joining.On behalf of the new members, it was stated that prolonged dissatisfaction due to various issues and lack of development had led to frustration. This prompted them to embrace the ideals of Congress and join the party.Meanwhile, the opposition camp has been stirred by this development.
