Dharmanagar, Tripura, 3rd of May 2026 : In a remarkable rescue operation, fire service personnel in Dharmanagar of North Tripura successfully saved a cow that had fallen into a deep well in the Dhupirband area. The rescue, carried out from a depth of approximately 36 feet, was highly risky and challenging. However, alongside this success, concerns have surfaced regarding the severe shortage of staff at the local fire station. The incident occurred on Sunday morning near Ward No. 2, adjacent to the Dhupirband Panchayat office.

A cow belonging to a local resident, Sona Miya, accidentally fell into a deep earthen well. Local residents initially attempted to rescue the animal but failed, prompting them to inform the fire service.Responding promptly, a small team from the Dharmanagar Fire Station reached the spot. With only three personnel, they began the rescue operation. Using ropes and specialized equipment, they managed to pull the cow out safely after a prolonged effort. The animal was later handed back to its owner unharmed.

Fire Station in-charge Ruman Pal stated, “We reached the spot immediately after receiving the information. Rescuing the cow from a 36-foot-deep well was quite difficult, but we succeeded.”However, he also highlighted a major concern. According to him, the station currently operates with only 3 to 4 personnel. “We carried out this rescue with just three people. If a major fire had broken out at the same time, it would have been impossible to handle the situation with such limited manpower,” he added.

He further alleged that although the municipality has a separate rescue team for disaster management, the fire service often does not receive the expected level of cooperation, leaving them to bear the entire burden. While the fire service has been widely praised for their humane and courageous effort, the incident has intensified demands for adequate staffing at the Dharmanagar Fire Station. Locals believe that addressing this issue urgently is essential to prevent potential disasters in the future.
