TIUT Unveils New Academic Programmes, Expands Research Opportunities and Strengthens Industry-Academia Linkages.

Agartala, Tripura, 30th of May 2026 : Techno India University, Tripura (TIUT) today announced a series of significant academic, research, and institutional initiatives aimed at further strengthening higher education opportunities in the state and reinforcing its position as a leading centre of learning, innovation, and professional excellence in Northeast India. The announcements were made during a press conference held in Agartala, which was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Kumar Saha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Techno India University, Tripura, in the presence of senior university officials representing various academic and administrative departments of the University.

The developments reflect the visionary leadership of Prof. Satyam Roy Chowdhury, Hon’ble Chancellor of TIUT and Managing Director of Techno India Group, whose unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, research, and industry-oriented education continues to guide the University’s growth trajectory. Under his leadership, TIUT has steadily expanded its academic portfolio while fostering an ecosystem that integrates quality education, research, employability, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility.

Addressing the media, Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Kumar Saha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of TIUT, highlighted the University’s sustained efforts to introduce contemporary and future-ready programmes aligned with national priorities and emerging industry requirements. He emphasized that TIUT remains committed to creating educational opportunities that are globally relevant while remaining rooted in the developmental aspirations of Tripura and the Northeast region.

As part of its commitment to academic excellence and outcome-oriented learning, all Schools of the University have developed and published Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Handbooks and Skillset: Theory in Practice Handbooks, each carrying ISSN registration. These publications serve as valuable academic resources that bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application while providing students with clearly defined learning outcomes, skill-development pathways, and industry-relevant competencies in alignment with the objectives of NEP 2020.

Highlighting the University’s growing research ecosystem, the Vice-Chancellor referred to several recent academic initiatives, including the successful organization of a National Workshop on “R” Programming and Statistical Data Analysis for Research Applications in February 2026. Such initiatives, he noted, reflect TIUT’s commitment to strengthening research capabilities and enhancing a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation.

Speaking on the University’s efforts towards strengthening legal education, Prof. Ranjan Kumar Mishra, Dean, School of Law, highlighted the importance of experiential learning, legal research, advocacy training, and professional skill development. He noted that the University continues to undertake initiatives that enhance students’ practical exposure and professional preparedness in the legal domain.

Among the major announcements was the introduction of several new academic programmes from the upcoming academic session. These include Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Performing Arts, encompassing Dance, Drama, and Music, aimed at nurturing artistic excellence while preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage. The programmes are expected to create new opportunities for students aspiring to pursue professional careers in the performing arts and creative industries.

The University has also introduced B.Tech. in Food Technology, a programme designed to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in food processing, food safety, quality assurance, and allied

sectors. Recognizing the importance of advanced technological education and research, TIUT has further expanded its engineering offerings through a range of M.Tech. programmes, including specializations in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Data Science, and Cloud Computing & Big Data.

Responding to the evolving needs of industry and working professionals, the University has also introduced an Executive MBA programme. Designed to provide flexibility without compromising academic rigour, the programme seeks to equip professionals, entrepreneurs, administrators, and aspiring business leaders with advanced managerial competencies suited to the contemporary corporate environment.

Highlighting the University’s growing research ecosystem, the Vice-Chancellor informed the media that TIUT is currently offering Ph.D. programmes in Computer Science & Engineering, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Geography & Disaster Management, English, Law, Commerce, and Management. The expansion of doctoral programmes reflects the University’s commitment to promoting high-quality research, innovation, and knowledge creation that contribute to regional and national development.

Dr. Suman Kalyan Nath, Dean (In-Charge), School of Health Sciences and Translational Research, highlighted the growing importance of allied healthcare education in addressing contemporary healthcare challenges. He emphasized the University’s commitment to developing skilled, compassionate, and technologically proficient healthcare professionals through a combination of academic learning, practical training, research, and community engagement.

As part of its vision for internationalization, TIUT has established a Department of Global Affairs and International Relations. Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Shiladitya Munshi, Registrar (In-Charge) and Dean (In-Charge), School of Engineering & Architecture, stated that the department will facilitate international academic collaborations, student and faculty exchange programmes, joint research initiatives, and other global engagement activities, thereby strengthening the University’s international outreach and creating greater opportunities for students and researchers to engage with the global academic communities.

The University also reiterated its commitment to maintaining high academic standards through statutory approvals, professional accreditations, institutional recognitions, and national academic affiliations. TIUT is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), reflecting its growing stature within India’s higher education landscape. The University offers programmes approved by statutory and professional bodies such as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Bar Council of India (BCI), and the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura. Further strengthening its research credentials, TIUT has been recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

University officials highlighted TIUT’s growing network of collaborations with government agencies, academic institutions, international universities, and industry partners. At the national level, the University has established collaborative relationships with institutions and organizations such as the Directorate of Biotechnology, Government of Tripura, Tripura University, Central Agricultural University (CAU), National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI), and several other academic and research bodies. Expanding its global engagement, TIUT has also entered into partnerships with internationally reputed institutions including Hoa Sen University (Vietnam), Hanoi University of Industry (Vietnam), and Bowie State University (USA). In the industry domain, collaborations with organizations such as Infosys, 1Stopai, Bharat Chamber of Commerce and other leading professional bodies continue to create opportunities for research, innovation, skill development, internships, faculty exchange, and enhanced employability for students.

Special emphasis was laid on the University’s Training and Placement Cell, which works closely with industry partners to facilitate internships, placement drives, career counselling, industry interaction programmes, and skill-development initiatives. In addition to placement support, the University is actively

working to create opportunities for students to undertake internships and experiential learning programmes in reputed organizations and institutions across different states of India as well as abroad through its growing network of academic and industry collaborations. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing student employability, professional exposure, and global competencies in an increasingly interconnected world.

The University also highlighted its extensive scholarship support system. Students can avail themselves of various government-sponsored scholarship schemes as well as institutional merit-based and need-based scholarships, ensuring that deserving students have access to quality higher education irrespective of their socio-economic background.

Speaking on student development and social responsibility, Prof. Dilip Sarkar, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dean of Student Welfare, TIUT highlighted TIUT’s commitment to community engagement through a range of structured outreach initiatives. As part of its social responsibility mission, the University has adopted Maheshkhola as its satellite village, where students and faculty regularly participate in developmental, educational, health-awareness, and community-oriented activities. The University also extends legal assistance to members of the community through its in-house Legal Aid Clinic, which provides guidance and support on various legal matters, thereby promoting access to justice and legal awareness. These initiatives reflect TIUT’s broader commitment to strengthening community engagement and fostering socially responsible citizenship among its students.

Highlighting the University’s vibrant academic and literary culture, officials noted that TIUT regularly publishes TIUT Times, the University’s newsletter, which chronicles important academic, research, student, and institutional developments. The University also publishes Mandala, its literary and cultural magazine, providing a platform for students and faculty members to showcase their creative, intellectual, and scholarly pursuits. These publications reflect the University’s commitment to fostering a dynamic culture of expression, knowledge-sharing, and academic engagement.

Currently, TIUT offers a diverse range of programmes across multiple disciplines, including Engineering & Architecture, Humanities & Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Commerce, Management & Economics, Agriculture, Fisheries, Law, Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Allied Healthcare Sciences. The University continues to invest in academic infrastructure, laboratories, research facilities, and student support services to provide a comprehensive learning environment that combines academic rigour with practical exposure.

Outlining the University’s future plans, Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Kumar Saha stated that TIUT remains dedicated to expanding interdisciplinary education, strengthening its research ecosystem, and fostering innovation-driven learning. The University plans to introduce a dedicated Department of Fine Arts in the coming years to further enrich its academic offerings in the creative and cultural domains. As part of its future roadmap, the University also plans to establish advanced academic and innovation facilities, including an IoT and Drone Laboratory, Intelligence Unnati Lab, and a Salesforce Data Science Centre of Excellence, aimed at enhancing research, innovation, skill development, and industry engagement opportunities for students. Simultaneously, TIUT aims to enhance its research capabilities through increased doctoral and funded research activities, stronger national and international collaborations, improved research infrastructure, and greater emphasis on innovation and knowledge creation.

The Vice-Chancellor further informed that the University will organize a series of national and international workshops, seminars, conferences, and academic conclaves on emerging and socially relevant themes such as Cyber Security, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Disaster Management, Artificial Intelligence, and sustainable development, among others. TIUT also plans to host a National Moot Court Competition in the near future, providing law students with a platform to develop advocacy, research, and legal reasoning skills. In addition, several Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), training workshops, and capacity-building initiatives will be organized regularly to strengthen teaching-learning practices, academic leadership, research culture, and professional excellence among faculty members.
