Agartala, Tripura, 4th of July, 2026 : With the initiative of Health and Family Welfare Department Government of Tripura organized celebration ceremony of National Doctors’ Day 2026 at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, Tripura on Saturday (4th July, 2026).

In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial Lamp. The Chief Minister, along with the other dignitaries, paid floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy as a mark of respect.
Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of National Doctors’ Day 2026 Hon‘ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that Doctors play an indispensable role in building the foundation of a healthy society and a strong nation. Medical professionals should draw inspiration from the exemplary skill, integrity, ethics, and way of life of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy while serving society. It is important to remember that only by working with dedication, responsibility, and commitment can one earn respect and goodwill in society.

“The State Government is committed to providing all necessary facilities and support to doctors serving in the state. He noted that the circular prohibiting private practice by government doctors had been in existence for many years but had never been effectively implemented. The government aims to bring greater transparency to healthcare services as well as the functioning of all government departments, keeping the public interest at the forefront. The decision to enforce the ban on private practice for doctors serving at GBP Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College was announced only after detailed discussions with the doctors’ associations and after taking their views into consideration.” , Chief Minister added.
Highlighting the occasion, Chief Minister remarked that greater use of teleconsultation services is essential to reduce both treatment time and medical expenses while ensuring better healthcare for patients. He stated that the state government’s objective is to build robust healthcare infrastructure and provide quality medical services to the people at an affordable cost. He noted that the number of referral patients from the state has declined significantly in recent years.

Addressing at the event Chief Minister also added that The government is working not only to strengthen healthcare facilities in the capital but also to develop advanced medical infrastructure across the state’s districts and subdivisions. He further said that the government plans to introduce liver and heart transplant services in the state in the coming days. The state has achieved 100 percent success in the implementation of the Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, the Chief Minister said. Reflecting on the life and ideals of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, he described him as an eminent physician and an able administrator whose exemplary contributions continue to inspire generations. The Chief Minister added that that with the collective cooperation and participation of people from all sections of society, the state can build a New Tripura and a Healthy Tripura.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte delivered a welcome address at the celebration of National Doctors’ Day. He elaborated on the various initiatives undertaken to strengthen the state’s healthcare system. He said that the Health Department has been implementing a range of measures to enhance the quality of healthcare services and ensure better medical care for the people.

During the programme, ten retired doctors were felicitated in recognition of their dedicated service. In addition, seven doctors were honoured with awards for their outstanding contributions in various fields of medicine.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine; Dr. Tapan Majumder, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College; Prof. Dr. Arindam Dutta, Principal of TMC and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Teaching Hospital; and Dr. Shalu Roy, Principal of Agartala Government Dental College. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of the Health Department.
