Agartala, Tripura, 29th of July, 2026 : Hon’ble Governor of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu said that Government efforts alone are not enough to protect the environment; rather, conservation practices must begin at the level of every individual, family, and community. He made these remarks today while attending a program organized this morning at Heritage Park, Agartala, on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day. During the event, he planted a sapling of a Nageshwar (Indian rosechestnut) tree on the park grounds.
Calling on every citizen of the state to protect this heritage, the Governor said that everyone must work together to preserve Tripura’s rich biodiversity for future generations. In his address, the Governor painted a vision of a Tripura where forests would be even richer, rivers would remain clear, the air would be pure, and human life and society would flourish in harmony with nature. Highlighting the importance of. Tripura’s forest resources, the Governor said the state’s forests are not merely a green cover but the lifeblood of Tripura. Spanning nearly 1.5 million hectares, these forests form an important foundation of the rural economy and a source of livelihood for a significant number of tribal communities and forest-dependent people.
The Governor further said that the time has now come to move beyond mere conservation and toward transformation. To this end, climate-resilient agriculture must be mainstreamed into Tripura’s State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC). He also emphasized institutional coordination, participatory planning, and the development of decentralized resource centers, so that every farmer and every villager can obtain the knowledge and materials needed to adapt to climate change. The Govemor urged citizens to plant native tree species in their own localities to create habitats for birds and insects, prevent soil erosion and land degradation, conserve water resources through rainwater harvesting, and reduce the use of single-use plastics by following the principle of “reduce, reuse, and recycle.”
Among other speakers, Ravindra Kumar Samal, Principal Secretary and PCCF of the Forest Department and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the Forest Department for the conservation and sustainable management of the state’s natural resources.
The welcome address was delivered by Prasada Rao Vaddarapu, CEO of the Tripura Parks and Garden Society, and the vote of thanks was given by Sanjay Majumdar, Additional Director of the Tripura Parks and Garden Society. Also present at the event were Praveen L. Agarwal, Managing Director and PCCF of the Tripura Forest Development and Plantation Corporation (TFDPC); Dr. K. Shashikumar, PCCF (Administration, Public Relations and Vigilance); and Chaitanya Murthy, Chief Wildlife Warden and Member-Secretary of the Tripura Biodiversity Board also addressed the event.
