Dharmanagar, Tripura, 30th of July 2026 : The Dharmanagar Press Club organized the “Tree Plantation and Merit Felicitation 2026” programme on Thursday (30th July, 2026) at 11:00 a.m. in the newly built auditorium of Padmapur Higher Secondary School. The event was aimed at promoting environmental conservation while encouraging meritorious students for their academic achievements.
The programme was attended by Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty and North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran as the chief guests. Also present were Dharmanagar Press Club President Buddhabhushan De Sarkar, Secretary Rupak Debnath, all members of the Press Club, students from various schools, parents, and several distinguished guests.
The programme was formally inaugurated with the symbolic watering of a sapling by the dignitaries. The welcome address was delivered by Swarup Ghosh, Treasurer of the Dharmanagar Press Club. In his speech, he appealed to the administration and the local MLA for support in constructing a permanent building for the Dharmanagar Press Club, a long-standing demand of the organization.
Addressing the gathering, District Magistrate Chandni Chandran emphasized that academic success alone is not enough for students. She said that true success comes through the proper development of one’s talents, along with perseverance, discipline, and self-confidence.
In his address, MLA Jahar Chakraborty expressed his support for the Press Club’s demand for a permanent building and assured that the matter would be considered positively. He remarked, “The Dharmanagar Press Club has been highlighting important social issues for a long time. A permanent building is something the organization truly deserves.”Speaking on environmental conservation, he said, “Planting trees alone is not enough; their regular care and protection are equally important.”
Addressing the meritorious students, he advised them to set clear goals in life and work with dedication, adding that education empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.During the programme, District Magistrate Chandni Chandran was presented with a commemorative memento by Press Club President Buddhabhushan De Sarkar, while MLA Jahar Chakraborty was felicitated by Press Club Secretary Rupak Debnath.The Merit Felicitation 2026 ceremony followed, where meritorious students were honoured with mementoes and gifts. Initially, the awards were presented by the MLA and the District Magistrate, after which members of the Dharmanagar Press Club felicitated a total of ten outstanding students.
The programme concluded with a tree plantation drive on the school campus, where the guests planted saplings to promote environmental awareness. By combining environmental responsibility with recognition of academic excellence, the Dharmanagar Press Club’s initiative received widespread appreciation from those present. Club officials also expressed their commitment to organizing similar social and educational programmes on an even larger scale in the future.
