Hyderabad, Telangana, 1st of September, 2026 : A security breach has been reported at the Madras Regiment premises in Bolarum after several service weapons and ammunition were found missing from a secured storage room.
The incident is suspected to have occurred on Sunday night and came to light when Army personnel discovered that the room’s door and lock had been damaged. A complaint was filed with the Bolarum police on Monday, and a theft case was registered.
According to preliminary information, the missing weapons include four AK-47 rifles, six pistols and an INSAS rifle, along with ammunition. Officials have not yet released a complete inventory, although reports suggest that around 12 weapons may be missing.
The storage room was located in a restricted section of the Army premises and was accessible only to authorised personnel. Police and Army investigators are examining how the weapons were removed from the facility without triggering an immediate alarm.

The area has reportedly been sealed, while personnel, security guards and others with access to the premises are being questioned. Investigators are also reviewing entry and exit records and examining CCTV footage from the regiment and surrounding areas.
Given the restricted nature of the facility, authorities are probing the possibility of insider involvement. They are also investigating whether more than one person was involved in the suspected theft.
Senior officers of the Malkajgiri Commissionerate are supervising the police probe, while the Army is conducting a parallel internal inquiry. Investigators are working to establish the sequence of events, identify those responsible and recover the missing weapons.
