Khowai, Tripura, 3rd of September, 2026 : As part of the Swachh Bharat initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed on Thursday (3rd September, 2026) between the Khowai Municipal Council and ONGC. The primary objective of this initiative is to keep the Khowai Municipal Council area clean and environmentally friendly through the proper collection, processing, and management of waste generated at various locations.
The newly formed cooperative, comprising representatives from around 100 SHGs, is expected to play a key role in ensuring efficient waste management in the municipal area.
For the implementation of the project, ONGC Tripura has allocated more than ₹1 crore. The funds will be used to undertake initiatives aimed at processing and recycling waste generated in the municipal area through modern methods.
Addressing at the event, Khowai Municipal Council Chairman Debashish Nath Sharma said that the successful implementation of this initiative would greatly benefit the people of Khowai Municipal Council area. He also expressed hope that the initiative would usher in a new era of waste management and help make Khowai town cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
The General Manager of ONGC Tripura, along with other officials, was present at the Khowai Municipal Council office at around 10 a.m. on Thursday. The event was attended by Khowai Municipal Council Chairman Debashish Nath Sharma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Chief Executive Officer of Khowai Municipal Council Nirmal Kumar Jha, along with other officials from the Municipal Council and ONGC.
