Amarpur, Tripura, 4th of September, 2026 : With the initiative of Government Degree College girl hostel authority of Khumulwng Janmashtami celebration 2026 was conducted with religious fervor here in the girls’ hostel in Khumulwng.
On this auspicious occasion a large number of dignitaries, Hostelers and professors have participated the event. Under the guidance and supervision of assistant prof. Dr. Maharani Hrangkhawl the celebration was beautified with different kinds of event segments. To enhance the knowledge of the students over the significance of this festival Dr. Maharani Hrangkhawl has delivered an inspiring speech.
Narrating the event she said, “Janmashtami is one of the most important Hindu festivals. It is celebrated every year to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, who is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The festival is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm throughout India and in many other parts of the world. According to Hindu tradition, Lord Krishna was born at midnight on the eighth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Shravana/Bhadrapada. He was born in Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva. His birth took place during a difficult time when the cruel king Kansa was troubling the people. Krishna later defeated Kansa and helped restore righteousness and peace.
On Janmashtami, devotees observe fasts and spend the day praying and singing devotional songs. Temples and homes are beautifully decorated with flowers and lights. At midnight, the time believed to be Krishna’s birth, devotees perform special prayers and celebrate with great joy. In many places, Dahi Handi is also celebrated. Groups of young people form human pyramids to break a pot filled with curd or butter, remembering Krishna’s childhood love for butter. Janmashtami teaches us important values such as truth, courage, love, devotion and the victory of good over evil. Lord Krishna’s teachings in the Bhagavad Gita also inspire people to perform their duties sincerely without being attached to the results. Thus, Janmashtami is not only a religious festival but also a celebration of faith, love and righteousness. It reminds us to follow the path of goodness and stand against injustice.
Amidst the other distinguished dignitaries there were Ram Ballabh Sharma, IPS, Retd. IGP, Rajasthan, Preeti Sharma, director, finance, police dept. Rajasthan and many others remained present in the celebration.
