Janmashtami Celebrated At Various Temples In Dharmanagar With Traditional Religious Rituals.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 4th of September, 2026 : The festival of Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, was celebrated at various temples across Dharmanagar on Friday through traditional religious rituals and devotional programmes. From the morning, devotees gathered at several temples in the town and its adjoining areas. Special programmes were organised at the historic Harimandir in Dharmanagar market, the ISKCON temple in the Rajbari area, and several other Hindu temples.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, special prayers, pujas, kirtans, bhajans and religious discussions were organised at the temples. The temple premises were decorated with flowers and lights from the morning. Many devotees observed fasts and offered prayers as a mark of their devotion to Lord Krishna. Recitations from the Bhagavad Gita and Harinam Sankirtan were also organised at several temples.The Harimandir in Dharmanagar market witnessed a steady flow of devotees from the morning. Special puja and arati were performed at the scheduled time, followed by devotional music and kirtan in the evening. Special prayers and arati were conducted at the time traditionally associated with the birth of Lord Krishna, bringing the main religious rituals of the celebration to a close.

Meanwhile, the ISKCON temple in the Rajbari area also organised special programmes to mark Janmashtami. Kirtan, bhajan, puja and arati were conducted with the participation of devotees. Religious discussions on the life and teachings of Lord Krishna, along with devotional performances, were among the highlights of the celebrations. At the traditional birth hour, the idol of Lord Krishna was specially decorated and worshipped with rituals and arati.Similar religious programmes were organised at other temples across the town. While some temples held Naam Sankirtan, others arranged distribution of prasad and programmes featuring children portraying various episodes from the life of Lord Krishna.

The celebrations created a festive atmosphere in and around the temple premises.According to Hindu religious tradition, Lord Krishna appeared on the eighth lunar day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadra. Janmashtami is observed every year to commemorate the occasion. In Dharmanagar too, the festival was celebrated this year with due religious significance, following long-standing traditions and customary practices. The concerned authorities and temple management committees also maintained vigil to ensure a peaceful atmosphere around the temple premises during the celebrations.
