Dharmanagar, Tripura, 5th of September, 2026 : The North Tripura District-level Yoga Competition under the School Sports Competition 2026–27 was held at the Gauri Shekhar Roy Indoor Sports Hall. Organized by the North Tripura District School Sports Board under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, the competition featured boys’ and girls’ categories for Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 age groups.Participants from the three subdivisions of North Tripura took part in the competition.

Among those present were District Sports Department Deputy Director Biva Basu Goswami, District School Sports Board Secretary Siddhartha Som, Kanchanpur official Jatindra Noatia, Panisagar official Rajib Debnath, and judges Ruma Sutradhar, Shubhendu Purokayastha and Partha Sarathi Das.Biva Basu Goswami said that 10 boys and 10 girls would be selected from the district-level competition to represent North Tripura at the state-level Yoga Competition in Agartala. She emphasized the importance of yoga for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and advised students to practise yoga for at least 30 minutes every day.

However, the absence of students from any school in Dharmanagar has raised questions. Dharmanagar has a long-established yoga training institution as well as several other training centres. Despite this, no students from the area participated in the subdivision-level competition. The reasons behind the non- participation remain unclear, with discussions emerging in sporting circles over whether a lack of coordination or other factors were responsible. Demands have been raised to examine the matter and ensure that talented students from Dharmanagar get adequate opportunities to participate in such competitions in the future.
