Agartala, Tripura, 5th of September, 2026 : Teachers can build the future of a generation. Students are our future. Teachers can also build a strong nation by grooming responsible and capable citizens. These remarks were made by the Hon’ble Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman today at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on the occasion of observing 65th Teachers Day 2026. Speaking at the event Minister Kishore Barman recalled his own student life and highlighted the crucial role of teachers in his own life. He recalled how his teachers had shown him the direction in life and how they shaped up his personality.
The Higher Education Minister said, the role of teachers has become even bigger now. Smartphone, internet, Al can provide answers to our various problems. But there is no substitute of teachers in character building, encouraging or enabling the students to make meaningful queries. He urged the students not to study just for finding employment. Rather he emphasized earning knowledge and skill so that they could not only find a job for themselves but also could create employment for others. Greeting the teachers selected for award this year he said, this success of theirs has been built upon sacrifice, dedication and honesty. At the same time he also paid respect to all those teachers who did not get any award today, but are silently contributing to the students’ life everyday.

In this context the Higher Education Minister also referred to the heritage of education system in India. He highlighted the ancient big educational institutes like Nalanda and Bikramshila where students from across the world used to come for learning. He called upon all not to develop educational institutes merely as centres for taking examination, but to build as centres for gaining knowledge, research, innovation and character building
Welcome address was delivered by the director of school education department Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury. Before inauguration of the main programme, the Higher Education Minister also inaugurated a photo exhibition at the Rabindra Bhavanpremises.

In the photo exhibition gallery photographs on various achievements and programmes of the higher education department were put on display. Besides, photographs were also displayed on the life and contribution of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were director of the directorate of Kokborok and other minority languages Anandahari Jamatia, higher education department’s director Animesh Debbarma and SCERT director L. Darlong and many other distinguished dignitaries were present at the event.
