Khowai, Tripura, 17th of September, 2026 : A sudden accident cast a shadow over the festive celebrations in Khowai. A vehicle carrying the idol of Goddess Manasa lost control and overturned near the Khowai Dam while on its way for immersion on Wednesday (16th September, 2026). Five passengers, including two children, sustained injuries in the accident.
According to details of the incident, a Manasa Devi and Baba Lokenath Puja was held yesterday at the residence of Biplab Roy, popularly known as Banti, in the Durganagar area of Khowai. Following the puja, family members and relatives set out today in a vehicle to immerse the idols.
As the vehicle reached the area near Khowai Dam, it suddenly went out of control and overturned along the roadside. The vehicle, which was carrying the idols, fell off the road, creating panic among those present. Several passengers inside the vehicle were reportedly injured in the incident.
