Sepahijala, Tripura, 28th of October, 2026 : Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sepahijala, under Central Agricultural University (Imphal), conducted the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ (Save the Farm Campaign) at Killaverma VC under Jampuijala block, Sepahijala district, Tripura. The campaign aimed to promote natural farming, improve soil health, encourage scientifically sound and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices, and expand the area under pulse and oilseed crops to promote crop diversification, enhance soil fertility, improve resource-use efficiency and strengthen the sustainability and resilience of agricultural production systems.
The campaign is being conducted under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, with technical guidance from Dr. Ng. Iboyaima, Director, Directorate of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal, and Dr. A. K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya. The programme is coordinated under the guidance of Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, and supervised by Dr. Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK-Sepahijala.
The campaign featured training programmes focusing on natural farming practices and the scientific production of pulses & oilseed crops. Practical demonstrations were also conducted on natural farming, pulse cultivation, and oilseed crop production. A field day formed part of the programme, providing farmers with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge, exchange experiences and understand the application of improved farming techniques under local conditions.
During the training sessions, emphasis was placed on soil fertility management, efficient nutrient utilisation and the adoption of sustainable crop production methods. Farmers were made aware of the significance of pulses in crop rotation and diversified farming systems. Leguminous crops, in particular, can improve soil nitrogen availability through biological nitrogen fixation, thereby contributing to better nutrient management and potentially reducing the requirement for externally applied nitrogen fertilisers.

The demonstrations highlighted practical approaches to natural farming, improved pulse cultivation and oilseed production. Participants were encouraged to adopt suitable crop management practices, diversify cropping patterns and utilise available agricultural resources efficiently. Such interventions can contribute to maintaining soil productivity, improving cropping-system sustainability and strengthening the resilience of agriculture to climatic variability.
The field day further supported the exchange of technical information between agricultural experts and farmers, while encouraging the field-level adoption of appropriate agricultural technologies. The programme highlighted the importance of combining locally adaptable farming practices with scientific knowledge to promote sustainable agricultural development.
The programme was co-ordinated by Dr Utpal Dey, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), and Dr Ayam Pushparani Devi, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), KVK-Sepahijala.
