State Government Encouraging Rubber Plantation & Other Sectors To Improve The Socio-Economic Condition Of Rural People: Industries & Commerce Minister Santana Chakma.

Agartala, Tripura, 20th of November 2025 : The state government is encouraging rubber plantation along with other sectors to improve the socio-economic condition of people in rural areas. The government is also creating opportunities for women self-help groups to sell the products they produce. Tripura is currently second highest rubber producing state in the country. More land must be brought under rubber cultivation to elevate the state to the top position. Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma said this yesterday while inaugurating the mRube Best Performer Award Ceremony 2025 organized by the Rubber Board at Pragna Bhavan.

Speaking at the event, the Industries and Commerce Minister said that rubber is currently being cultivated on 133,809 hectares of land in the state, producing 116.058 metric tonnes. Rubber cultivation plays a significant role in making the state self-reliant. Jhum cultivators are being rehabilitated and integrated into rubber cultivation. The present state government has taken various initiatives to promote industrial growth. A new industrial policy has been announced, and it is yielding results. Over the past few years, 120 industrial entrepreneurs from outside the state have taken initiatives to invest 3,800 crore. As part of the Rubber Mission Project launched by the Chief Minister, work is underway to develop 30,000 hectares of new rubber plantations within five years. The Industries and Commerce Minister urged people from all sections of society to come forward to improve the state’s socio-economic condition.

At the event, Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department, highlighted the progress of rubber cultivation in the state, stating that a rubber park is being developed in Santirbazar. The welcome address was delivered by Joint Rubber Production Commissioner of the Rubber Board of India, N. Sali.

The event was presided over by M. Vasanthagesan, Executive Director of the Rubber Board. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Vinay K. Kurian of the Rubber Board of India. At the ceremony, guests presented awards, certificates, and prize money to 26 individuals from within and outside the state
