Gold Ornaments And Cash Stolen From Passenger’s Bag On Moving Train, One Suspect Caught.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 10th of August, 2026 : A gang of thieves has allegedly stolen a substantial amount of gold jewellery and cash after cutting open a passenger’s bag on a moving train. One of the four alleged members of the gang was caught red-handed by the victim’s family members and handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).

However, the stolen gold ornaments and cash have not yet been recovered.According to reports, Biplabi Das, a resident of Dashda Radhamadhabpur in North Tripura district, boarded a train from Pecharthal railway station at around 10 a.m. on Sunday (9th August, 2026) to travel to Ashimganj, along with her husband Debashish Das, her sister-in-law and her sister-in-law’s husband. It is alleged that a four-member gang had been keeping an eye on their movements since they boarded the train.Taking advantage of the crowd inside the train, the accused allegedly cut open Biplabi Das’s bag and fled with around 3 bhori 4 ana of gold ornaments and ₹13,000 in cash. The stolen jewellery reportedly included two gold bangles and a necklace.When the train reached Panisagar railway station, the victim’s family, with the help of fellow passengers, managed to catch one member of the alleged gang. During a search of the suspect’s bag, they reportedly found a knife.

The suspect was then kept in their custody until the train reached Dharmanagar railway station, where he was handed over to the GRP.According to police sources, the arrested suspect has been identified as Sajal Pal, a resident of Ward No. 6 in Ragna area. Biplabi Das has demanded strict legal action against Sajal Pal and the three other suspects who allegedly fled from the scene. She has also appealed to the authorities for the early recovery of the stolen gold ornaments and cash.A written complaint has already been lodged at Dharmanagar GRP Police Station. Based on the complaint, police have initiated an investigation and are conducting searches to trace the three absconding suspects.
