Sepahijala, Tripura, 7th of January, 2026 : On the basis of secret information Sepahijala District Police, in joint operations with BSF, TSR battalions, Forest officials and other agencies, carried out a massive crackdown on illicit Ganja (cannabis) cultivation on Wednesday (7th January, 2026) from the morning 8 am at various locations of the district.

A large-scale destruction operation was conducted under Sonamura Police Station leading by Inspector Tapas Das, Officer-In-Charge of Sonamura Police Station covering searched at Dhanpur, Induria, Kacchakhala, Dhanmura area in forest land with active support from 81 BN BSF, 49 BN BSF, 5th BN TSR, 9th BN TSR, 7th BN TSR, 11BN TSR, SP Sepahijala, DSP DIB Sepahijala Sonamura sub-division forest teams, 14th BN women TSR and other sister agencies. A total uprooting approximately 6 lakh matured Ganja plants destroy on spot, which have been planted covering the area approx 200 acres in forest land. The destination market value of the seized ganja is approx – 360,000,000/-.

Interacted with media Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge Sonamura Police Station gave details about this today. OC also stated that such operations against illegal contrabands would continue next day.
