Hyderabad, 13th of August 2024: A mosque in Shaheen Nagar, in collaboration with Helping Hand Foundation and AMPI -USA, a charity run by alumni of Osmania & Gandhi Medical college, have now set up a 20 bedded hospital for treatment of tropical & infectious diseases along with a 5 bedded Emergency Casualty that can even handle an acute MI/Heart attack.
In view of the acute need for an Inpatient facility to treat tropical & infectious diseases like typhoid, dengue, chikungunya, diarrhea which are endemic to this area due to poor sanitation, hygiene and access to clean drinking water. HHF & AMPI collaborated to set up this exclusive 2000 sq. ft state of the art facility on the first floor of the mosque.
AMPI has donated $ 100,000 for setting up this center & will sponsor the operational cost of the facility. The 20 bedded facilities along with 5 bedded casualty has modern equipment, Oxygen pipeline, Para monitors, defibrillators with a competent team of doctors and nurses will be managing the center 24×7. And can even handle an acute MI (Heart attack) at the center.
Patients from all faiths, caste and creed will be treated free of cost.
11 year old Alekhya daughter of a single mother from Ghouse Nagar Area, who works in a kirana store in Old city was one of the first patients to get admitted & treated successfully for Viral Hepatitis and UTI at this center free of cost.
The 20 bedded Tropical & infectious disease in patient facility which started a fortnight back has so far treated over 125 patients free of cost. In the 80 adults and 45 children were treated. 40% of the patients were treated for enteric fever, 30% for Acute GE, 10% Pneumonia, Dengue & others. Total cumulative saving for the 125 patients treated so far has been Rs 75 lacs. With lack of health facilities in this area, this center is estimated to save Rs 5000 to 10000 per day per bed of poor patients who are mostly daily wage earners and migrant workforce.
The center for Tropical & infectious disease was formally inaugurated by Dr. Zainab Baig, Secretary of the Board of AMPI – USA and a top Internal Medical Consultant from Cornell University NY, USA & an alumnus of Osmania Medical College in the presence of Janab Habeeb Aqueel, President of the mosque and member of Jamiat Ahle Hadees.
This is first time in the public health domain and more so in old city that an exclusive facility for free treatment of tropical & infectious diseases which see a seasonal spike from the monsoon months has been set up for highly vulnerable inhabitants of these Ultra-Slums said Mujtaba Hasan Askari of Helping Hand Foundation.
