Amarpur, Tripura, 13th of July 2026 : To commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Kesari Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukerjee, the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), Tripura Prant (Mahavidyalaya Shiksha) organized an insightful seminar titled ‘Mahajeevan Shyama Prasad Etihaser Aloke’ at the Smart Classroom of Ramthakur College, Agartala. The programme brought together academicians and intellectuals for an engaging exploration of the life and legacy of one of modern India’s most influential nation-builders.

The programme commenced with the offering of floral tributes to Goddess Saraswati, ceremonial lighting of the lamp, and the rendition of Saraswati Vandana, creating a dignified and scholarly atmosphere. The keynote speaker, Professor Dr. Jayanta Chakraborty, delivered a deeply researched, evidence-based and analytical lecture that highlighted several lesser-known aspects of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s life, philosophy and vision of nation-building. His presentation went far beyond the conventional narrative generally associated with Dr. Mukherjee.

Dr. Chakraborty elaborated on Dr. Mukherjee’s association with Visva-Bharati, his farsighted leadership during the politically turbulent period of undivided India, his historic stand on Article 370, and his political role during the Quit India Movement. Drawing upon historical documents, archival evidence and scholarly sources, he explained why Dr. Mukherjee should be viewed not merely as an accomplished politician, but as a visionary statesman and a “Mahajeevan” – a towering personality whose ideas continue to inspire national thought. Participants observed that the seminar offered a refreshing reinterpretation of history rather than a repetition of familiar narratives. Many remarked that such evidence-based academic discussions would enrich scholarly discourse on Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee not only in Tripura but across the country, while encouraging a deeper understanding of India’s political and intellectual history.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Prasenjit Debbarma. Later, Dr. Haradhan Saha, Principal of Ramthakur College, and Sri Tirtharam Reang, President of ABRSM, Tripura Prant (Mahavidyalaya Shiksha), addressed the gathering. They both emphasized the continuing relevance of Dr. Mukherjee’s nationalist thought and the need to introduce his ideas to the younger generation through informed academic engagement.

Among the distinguished attendees there were Sri Tapas Roy, Pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Tripura Prant. Principals, professors, academicians and educators from various colleges and technical institutes across the state also participated, making the seminar intellectually vibrant and memorable. The programme concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem. On behalf of the organizers, Sri Shyamsundar Sarkar, Secretary of ABRSM, Tripura Prant (Mahavidyalaya Shiksha), expressed heartfelt gratitude to the keynote speaker, distinguished guests, participants and all those whose cooperation contributed to the successful and peaceful conduct of the event.j
