Agartala, Tripura, 1st of July, 2026 : The Agartala Press Club has strongly condemned and protested the remarks made on social media by Chandan Debnath, the BJP’s IT Cell In-charge, regarding the State’s News Media. The Press Club expressed its deep concern over the statement, describing it as objectionable and asserting that such comments undermine the dignity and independence of the media.
In a statement, the Agartala Press Club said it considers such remarks to be derogatory towards the media fraternity of the State, as well as undemocratic and unbecoming of public discourse. The Press Club further stated that Tripura’s media has a rich and longstanding legacy, which has earned recognition and appreciation on numerous occasions across the country.
The Agartala Press Club stated that Tripura’s newspapers and journalists played a significant role during the Bangladesh Liberation War. It noted that the state’s media has a proud legacy and has made valuable contributions to journalism over the years.
The Press Club also state that such remarks about Tripura’s media and journalists are unwarranted, objectionable, and amount to an attempt to undermine the credibility and dignity of the press. It strongly condemned and protested the statement, reaffirming its commitment to upholding the independence and integrity of the media.
