Dharmanagar, Tripura, 1st of July 2026 : Residents of Dharmanagar in North Tripura submitted a deputation to North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai on Wednesday, demanding the introduction of a permanent traffic management system at College Chowmuhani, one of the busiest intersections leading to Dharmanagar Government College.

According to the residents, the absence of an effective traffic management system at the junction has led to frequent accidents involving pedestrians, college students, and commuters. Every day, hundreds of students, teachers, parents, and local residents use this busy crossing. However, with no permanent traffic post or traffic personnel deployed, vehicles move in an unregulated manner, creating serious safety concerns. The situation becomes particularly difficult during college opening and closing hours, when students face significant risks while crossing the road.

Residents alleged that despite raising the issue with the authorities on several occasions, no permanent solution has been implemented so far, prompting them to seek the intervention of the Superintendent of Police. In their memorandum, the residents demanded the establishment of a permanent traffic post at College Chowmuhani and the regular deployment of a traffic police officer. They also urged the authorities to introduce necessary traffic control measures to improve road safety in the area.

The demand has received the support of all small and large business owners operating around College Chowmuhani. They believe that an effective traffic management system will not only ensure the safety of students but also benefit pedestrians and motorists who use the intersection every day.The residents expressed hope that the district police administration would consider the matter in the larger public interest and take prompt steps to introduce a permanent traffic management system at College Chowmuhani.
