Assembly Session 2025 : Due To Flood, 58780 Houses Were Destroyed And Damaged Across The State : Chief Minister.

Agartala, Tripura, 10th of January, 2025 : The August 2024 floods were an unexpected natural disaster for the state. With the collaboration of the state government, relief agencies and above all the people have made it possible to successfully deal with the terrible flood situation in the state in August. As a result of the floods, 58,780 houses were destroyed and damaged across the state. So far, 53,830 families have been provided financial assistance of Rs. 58 crore 18 lakh for the repair and reconstruction of the destroyed and damaged houses. 6 crore 4 lakh rupees have been given for utensils and clothes. 38 people have died due to floods and landslides. A total of 1 crore 52 lakh rupees have been given to the families of the deceased at the rate of 4 lakh rupees each. In addition, 2 lakh rupees have been given directly to the families of 31 deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. This was stated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in the discussion on a private resolution brought in the Assembly today. The private motion moved by MLA Shyamal Chakraborty was ‘This Assembly proposes that adequate government assistance be provided immediately to all the families affected by the terrible floods in the state in August last year’. This issue was discussed by MLA Sudip Roy Barman, MLA Gopal Roy, MLA Dipankar Sen, MLA Ranjit Das, MLA Jitendra Majumdar, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, among others.

The Chief Minister said that Tripura had faced unprecedented floods due to heavy and incessant rainfall from August 19 to 23. Out of the 12 rivers in the state, 11 rivers, except the North Tripura Juri River, had crossed the danger mark. More than 17 lakh people have been affected by the floods. About 4 lakh people have been shifted to safer places and relief camps. 889 relief camps have been opened across the state. 2 lakh people have taken shelter in them. 38 people have lost their lives in the floods and landslides. The initial damage in the state is about 15 thousand crore rupees. The highest loss has been suffered in the agriculture and horticulture department. The amount is ₹ 3,252 crore. The loss of the Water Resources Department is ₹ 3,083 crore. The loss of the Rural Development Department is ₹ 3,009 crore, the loss of the Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges) is ₹ 1900 crore, the loss of the Fisheries and Livestock Development Department is ₹ 1,543 crore. During the flood, 32 teams of SDRF, 11 teams of NDRF, 1000 trained Civil Defence volunteers, 100 Apadamitra volunteers and 54 disaster management teams were engaged in relief and rescue work across the state. An inter-ministerial central team has visited the state twice after the flood to assess the damage.

The Chief Minister said that after the visit of the central team, a memorandum of Rs 7,081 crore has been submitted to the Central Government for additional relief funds. Which is currently under the consideration of the Central Government. The State Government has announced a special package of Rs 564 crore for immediate relief and reconstruction. During this time, about Rs 35 crore has been donated to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund from various states and the public.
