Agartala, 9th of January 2024 : The State Government’s Department of Social Welfare and Social Education plans to open drug de-addiction treatment facility centers in every district of the State. These centers will be opened under the scheme of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Hon’ble Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, minister Tinku Roy said this in a reply to the questions of MLA Minarani Sarkar and MLA Jadbalal Nath during the question and answer session in the Legislative Assembly 3rd day on Tuesday (9th January, 2024).
According to the proposal of the Department of Health, the Government of India approved a Drug Addiction Treatment Facility Center at the Modern Psychiatric Hospital in Narsinghgarh, Social Welfare Minister said. At present, drug addiction treatment services are being provided in the State from this center. He also added that the Health Department has taken the initiative to set up a 200-bed ‘Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts’ in Sepahijala. A drug de-addiction center has been set up in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) which will be opening shortly. Besides, a proposal to open 2 drug de-addiction centers in South Tripura and Gomati districts has been sent to the Government of India for approval.
