Agartala, Tripura, 6th of January, 2025 : Hon’ble Power, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath has urged to the people of the state to develop themselves as electricity producers instead of just looking at various power generation plants. The minister said this while attending a special camp of Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana  at the corporate office Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited on Monday (6th January, 2025).

A special camp has been organized for the electricity consumers of Agartala Municipal Corporation area for registration in the Surya Ghar project, provision of bank loans and selection of vendors for project implementation. He wants to keep the countrymen safe by planning and implementing the problems that may arise in the country in the future. In the coming days, coal will run out, gas will run out, and as a result, traditional electricity production will decrease. Keeping that in mind, the Prime Minister has decided to use solar power to provide electricity to every household. Not only that, in a surprising plan, he has made every family an electricity producer with government subsidy and given them a wonderful opportunity to earn by selling excess electricity to the power corporation. The Power Minister said, who knows whether this opportunity will be there after 2026? But before that, the Power Minister has appealed to the people of the state to take advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana by taking advantage of the government subsidy.0

February 13, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana. The project aims to generate 500 GW of electricity by 2030. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that so far 200 GW of electricity have been confirmed in the country. This is 40 percent of the target. State Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath also said that the Prime Minister has increased the subsidy to encourage the people of these states to take up the Surya Ghar project by giving the status of special category states to several states including Tripura. The only goal is to reduce the electricity bill to zero. Explaining in detail about this project, Ratan also said that this project can generate electricity on the roof of the house, tin roof or even on the ground.

The project aims to increase the capacity of rooftop solar power and enable families to generate their own electricity. In the household sector, this initiative will run from the fiscal year 2023-24 (starting from February 13, 2024) to the fiscal year 2026-27. Government subsidies will be provided until this period. The total financial outlay will be Rs 75,021 crores. Explaining the subsidy to the beneficiaries under this project, Ratan said that for the installation of the first 2 kW capacity solar panels in the residential sector, the subsidy is Rs 33,000 per kW. After the installation of the first 2 kW solar panels, the subsidy will be Rs 19,800 for the installation of the next 1 kW solar panel. The maximum subsidy for 3 kW solar panels is Rs 85,800. After the installation of 3 kW solar panels in the residential sector, no further subsidy will be available for the installation of the next solar panel, i.e. for increasing the kilowatt.

In the case of housing societies/residential welfare associations etc. and in the case of electrical vehicle charging, solar panels up to 500 kW can be installed. For this, a subsidy of Rs 19,800 per kW will be available. Each family can install solar panels up to a maximum of 3 kW. The Power Minister also said that special initiatives will be taken to bring the entire state under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
