Guwahati, Assam, 28th of September, 2026 : A discussion on “Beyond Property Management: Building Stronger Charitable Institutions in Assam” was organised by Anowaruddin Wakf Estate in Guwahati on Sunday (27th September, 2026), bringing together representatives from the legal, administrative and religious spheres to discuss the evolving role of Wakf institutions and the need for more effective management, governance and utilisation of Wakf properties.
Welcoming the guests, Mr. Mohammed Naif Ali, Trustee, Anowaruddin Wakf Estate, said that the purpose of the discussion was to look beyond the conventional understanding of Wakf as merely a matter of property administration and to encourage a broader conversation on institutional responsibility, legal compliance, community welfare and sustainable development.
The session brought together Ms. Farida Samsul, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Welfare of Minorities & Development Department, as the Chief Guest; Adv. Akram Imtiaz Ali, Gauhati High Court, and Maulana Nurul Amin Qasimi as Special Guests. The discussion was attended by trustees and stakeholders associated with Wakf institutions.
Present at the event, Ms. Farida Samsul, IAS, highlighted the role of government policy and institutional coordination in addressing issues concerning Wakf properties and community development. She urged the Wakfs to work towards empowering women since empowered women can build a strong nation.
Speaking on Islamic ethics in managing Wakfs, Maulana Qasimi emphasised the principles of responsibility, trust and accountability associated with the management of Wakf properties. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that Wakf assets are administered with integrity and in accordance with their intended objectives.
Addressing the legal dimensions of Wakf administration, Adv. Akram Imtiaz Ali, Gauhati High Court, spoke about the importance of understanding the legal framework governing Wakf properties and institutions. He underlined the need for proper documentation, compliance and adherence to established legal procedures in the administration and management of Wakf assets.
The discussion highlighted that effective Wakf administration extends beyond the management of physical assets and requires a broader focus on transparency, accountability, legal compliance, institutional capacity and the long-term welfare of the communities that Wakf institutions are intended to serve.
