Sabroom, Tripura, 1st of September, 2025 : A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, who is posted at the Indo-Bangladesh border, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle. The incident took place at around 1 am on August 31. According to sources, the incident was due to a family dispute. The heartbreaking incident took place at Merupara border outpost in Sabroom subdivision of South Tripura district.

The deceased jawan’s name is Ugra Ram. He was a constable working in the 121 Battalion of BSF. Ugra Ram’s home is in the Indian state of Rajasthan. While on duty, he suddenly shot himself in the head with his service rifle. Hearing the sound of gunfire, his colleagues quickly rushed to the spot and found him lying in a bloody state. Arrangements are being made to recover his body and send it to the morgue.
On receiving the information about the incident, the police of Manubazar Police Station and the police officers of Srinagar outpost reached the spot. Then a team of BSF reached the spot. They are investigating the incident. Initially, it is believed that family unrest is the main reason for the suicide. The BSF authorities have started a formal investigation into the matter. They are trying to get in touch with Ugra Ram’s family to find out more about his mental condition. At the same time, discussions are also underway on what other steps can be taken to deal with the mental stress of the jawans. Senior BSF officials are considering taking precautionary measures to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.
