Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of June 2026 : A tragic incident involving the death of a domestic cow due to electrocution and injuries to a young man has sparked concern in the Yuvrajnagar area under Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura district. The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Monday (9th June, 2026) in Ward No. 1 of Yuvrajnagar Gram Panchayat.

According to local sources, a cow belonging to Zakir Hossain came into contact with a live electric wire and was severely electrocuted. The animal died on the spot. A local youth, who attempted to rescue the cow, was also struck by an electric shock and thrown to the ground. Fortunately, he survived with injuries.

The incident created panic among local residents. They alleged that negligence on the part of the Power Department and faulty electrical infrastructure were responsible for the accident. Upon receiving information, the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Power Department and concerned engineers visited the site and inspected the situation. Notably, several similar incidents have been reported in different parts of Dharmanagar subdivision in recent days. Earlier, cattle deaths due to electrocution were reported from Dhupirband and Ichailalchhara under Bagbasa Assembly constituency. Despite repeated occurrences, locals claim that no permanent solution has been implemented, raising serious questions about the role and responsibility of the Power Department.

Residents have demanded regular inspection and maintenance of electrical infrastructure, along with appropriate action against those responsible, to prevent such incidents in the future. They have also urged the department to act more responsibly to ensure the safety of both human lives and property.
