Celebration Of 150th Birth Anniversary Of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Agartala, Tripura, 22nd of September 2026: A two-day educational, cultural and community programme commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was organised in Agartala with enthusiastic participation from students, cyclists, artists, cultural groups and members of the community.

The programme was organised by the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation (ACF) with support from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, at Women’s College, Agartala. The programme focused on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s contribution to the integration of India and sought to promote awareness of national unity and the country’s diverse cultural heritage.

The first day began with the inaugural ceremony in the presence of Smt. Sanchita Reang, Principal of Women’s College, Agartala, along with Vishal Kumar, Ratan Kumar Saha and other distinguished personalities. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a seminar and discussions on the life, contribution and legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, particularly his historic role in the integration of India.

A major highlight of the first day was the unveiling of a book on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by the District Magistrate (DM). Copies of the book were subsequently distributed among students and participants, giving them an opportunity to learn more about Patel’s life, contribution and legacy.

A special PowerPoint presentation on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, presented by Siddhartha Sir, was also held. The presentation highlighted important aspects of Patel’s life, his contribution to national integration and his role in the making of modern India. It was well received by the audience and participants.

The first day also featured a Quiz Competition, which attracted around 100 to 150 participants. The competition covered topics related to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Indian history, the freedom movement and national integration. Fifty participants were recognised with awards and prizes.

The second day began with a Unity Cycling Rally, in which around 100 cyclists participated. Carrying the National Flag, placards featuring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and event banners, the cyclists took part in the rally, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere.

The rally was formally flagged off by Smt. Sanchita Reang, Principal of Women’s College, Agartala, and Dr. Dhananjoy Dey of TIT College. The rally highlighted Patel’s contribution to national integration while also promoting cycling as a healthy and environment-friendly mode of transport.

A Tree Plantation Programme was organised at the Women’s College premises as part of the day’s activities. The participating cyclists took part in planting saplings at different locations, adding an environmental component to the programme.

The second day also featured Drawing and Essay Competitions, which received an encouraging response. Nearly 100 participants took part in the Drawing Competition across different groups, while around 50 to 60 participants participated in the Essay Competition.

Smt. Sanchita Das, Managing Trustee of the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, played an active role in coordinating the programme and managing the event arrangements and amenities. She also presented the prizes and certificates to the participants and winners across the various competitions and activities. Her involvement continued throughout the programme, ensuring the smooth coordination of the different events.

The cultural programme continued until the afternoon and was one of the major attractions of the event. A variety of performances highlighting national integration and India’s cultural diversity were presented through music and dance.

The programme featured Manipuri dance and several other traditional and cultural dance forms representing different regions of India. Various cultural groups from TIT College also participated and presented colourful performances. Traditional costumes, music and dance forms added richness to the programme and showcased the diversity of India’s cultural traditions.

The two-day programme brought together students, cyclists, artists, cultural performers and members of the community through a combination of seminars, book unveiling and distribution, quiz, PowerPoint presentation, drawing and essay competitions, cycling, tree plantation and cultural performances.

The programme concluded with enthusiastic participation from students, cyclists, artists, cultural groups and members of the community.
