Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers is presenting the Tripura Football Association organized ‘Chandra Memorial Football Tournament’ at Umakanta Mini Stadium from 2nd December 2022 to 8th January 2023.
Tripura Football Association, established in 1968, is a member of All India Football Federation (AIFF) and has four divisions, ie, A,B,C & Womens, with 8,10,10 & 8 member clubs respectively.
And Chandra Memorial Football Tournament is a ‘A’ division league tournament with the 8 member clubs vying for the coveted trophy.
This year the tournament is being presented as a tribute to Gour Chandra Saha, a man who – as a Former Vice President of Tripura Football Association – swore by football and TFA; and whose name, as founder of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, continues to support the game.
The curtain-raiser of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers’ Chandra Memorial Football Tournament was held at Agartala Press Club on 1st December 2022 to share, with members of the news media, all that is scheduled to happen on the field and off it and to, together, kick-off this year’s tournament.
This special press preview was attended by Ratan Saha (Patron, TFA), Pranab Sarkar (President, TFA), Amit Choudhary (Honorary Gen Secy), Arpita & Rupak Saha (Directors, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers).
“It gives us great pleasure to announce this year’s tournament”, said Pranab Sarkar, President, Tripura Football Association, adding, “and, as always, we assure you of a tournament where football will be the winner.”
This expression was visibly supported by Ratan Saha & Amit Choudhary.
“Gour Chandra Saha, our founding father, was a former Vice President of Tripura Football Association and an active supporter of the game and all that it called for”, said Arpita Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers and daughter of Gour Chandra Saha, adding, “and, from this year, we are presenting – in his name many value-additions to take the tournament forward.”
“These value-additions will include felicitation of the ‘Man Of The Match’, ‘Man Of The Tournament’, ‘Best Emerging Player’, ‘Highest Scorer’ & ‘Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament’, along with ‘Best Referee’ and ‘Best Coach’ – with mementoes and cash prizes for all of them”, said Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers and son-in-law of Gour Chandra Saha, adding, “And, additionally, for the winner of the ‘Best Emerging Player’, there will be opportunities to train under star coaches in Kolkata and prepare to be in the big league.”
