Dharmanagar, Tripura, 20th of July 2026 : Ahead of International Chess Day, the Lions Club of Dharmanagar and the Leo Club of Dharmanagar jointly organized a vibrant chess tournament on Sunday (19th July, 2026) at the Vivekananda Sardha Shatabarshiki Bhavan premises in Dharmanagar. The event was held in observance of International Chess Day, celebrated worldwide on July 20.
Chess enthusiasts from different parts of Dharmanagar participated enthusiastically in the competition. From the morning onward, the venue witnessed a lively atmosphere with the presence of participants, parents, and spectators. The players displayed remarkable concentration and strategic skills, delivering a series of exciting matches.

The organizers stated that the primary objective of the tournament was to encourage young people to engage in intellectual activities and steer them away from excessive mobile phone use and other forms of addiction. They emphasized that chess is a game that significantly enhances memory, analytical thinking, patience, decision-making ability, and concentration. The event was therefore aimed at promoting the popularity of chess among the younger generation.
Office-bearers of the Lions Club of Dharmanagar and the Leo Club attended the event and encouraged the participants. Speaking on the occasion, they highlighted the significance of International Chess Day, stating that chess is not merely a sport but a powerful medium for developing intelligence, strategic thinking, and creativity.
