Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Inaugurates Fish Festival 2024 at Purbasha Complex, Agartala.

Agartala, 2nd of February, 2024 : With the initiative of Fisheries Department, Government of Tripura, Fish Festival 2024 has been organized at Purbasha Complex, Agartala on Friday (2nd February, 2024). The Festival programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other dignitaries.

“Efforts have been made to make the state self-reliant in fisheries For this purpose, the fishermen of the state are being made self-reliant. Various schemes are encouraging them in fisheries. To fulfill the demand fish has to be imported from outside the state and Bangladesh. Initiatives have been taken to make the state self-reliant in fisheries to meet this shortfall in future.”, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said at the inaugural ceremony of fish festival today.  

The Chief Minister also added that 63 thousand 397 fishermen in the state have been trained in scientific fisheries by the Department. 983 lakhs have been spent for this. Various co-operative societies and self-help groups have been assisted with various aids in fisheries in a scientific manner. Moreover, 61 thousand 762 fishermen of the state have been trained in fisheries. About 116 hectares of new water bodies have been created to expand the fisheries area. 9 crore 74 lakh rupees have been spent for this. About 4 thousand 581 fishermen have been provided various types of aids for scientific fishing.

B S Mishra,  Principal Secretary of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Departments delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. Hon’ble SC Welfare, ARD, Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das also spoke on the occasion. Santosh Das, Director of Fisheries Department,  Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, Sabhadhipati in-charge of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Haridulal Acharjee, former MLA Dr. Dilip Kumar Das and and many other dignitaries were present in the inaugural ceremony.
