Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of April 2025 : With The Initiative of Information & Cultural Affairs Department Government of Tripura organized State Level Jatra Utsav in collaboration with Dharmanagar administration at Vivekananda Shardha-Satabarshiki Bhavan, Dharmanagar on Wednesday (9th April, 2025). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated State Level Jatra Utsav by lighting the lamp.
Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of State Level Jatra Utsav Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the traditional customs and culture of the state cannot be allowed to disappear under any circumstances. The Department of Information and Culture is restoring the lost customs and cultures. Jatra and drama provide the means of survival. Through travel, one can learn about social issues and also give messages to the society. Through travel, the social system can be changed. Things that cannot be said directly in society can be said easily through travel and drama. Travel plays a very important role in strengthening the social system.
The Chief Minister also added that earlier, people used to wait for the arrival of winter to watch the Jatra. But now, people have chosen television and mobile as a medium of entertainment. People are starting to forget Jatra, drama, puppet dance. But the state government is working to ensure that these old customs and culture are not lost in any way. A few days ago, a spring festival was held in Agartala. It was done following of Rabindranath Tagore.
Jatra groups from different districts of the State will participate in the 13-day State Level Jatra Festival. The 13-day State Level Jatra Festival continue till April 23. Jatra Festival will be open daily from 6 pm. The Jatra Festival will not be held on April 14 and 15.
Special Secretary of the Information and Culture Department, Debapriya Bardhan delivered the welcome speech at the event. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries participants there were Hon’ble Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Hon’ble Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, North Tripura District Magistrate & Collector Chandni Chandran and many other dignitaries were present in the inauguration ceremony.
