Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha  Lays Foundation Stone Of Agartala Government Eye Hospital.

Agartala, Tripura, 15th of August, 2026 : With the initiative of State Government of Tripura organized Foundation stone laying ceremony of Agartala Govt. Eye Hospital at Capital Complex, Agartala, Tripura on Friday (14th August, 2026). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha laid the Foundation stone of Agartala Government Eye Hospital at Capital Complex.

Eyes are the most precious asset of human beings. An eye hospital is being established in the state so that common men can avail of general to specialized treatment facilities within the state. This hospital will also have facilities for the treatment of children’s eye and other complex diseases. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said this after ceremonially laying the foundation stone of Agartala Government Eye Hospital and launching the Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS) at Capital Complex, Agartala on Friday (14th August, 2026). The government aims to develop this upcoming hospital as a reliable centre for treatment of eye-related diseases not only for the people of Tripura, but also for the entire Northeast region. He said, today’s initiative is a milestone in the process of building an advanced infrastructure for eye treatment as well as building a coordinated, transparent and technology-driven treatment system.

The Chief Minister said until now there was a tendency among the people of the state to go outside for treatment whenever a complex eye disease was detected. So, keeping this in view this initiative has been taken to establish an advanced tertiary eye hospital in Tripura. Once this hospital becomes functional people of Tripura will benefit a lot from it in terms of eye disease treatment. Taking note of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inspiration to dream, there are plans to develop this hospital as a Centre of Excellence in Ophthalmology in the future. He said, this hospital will have advanced facility for diagnosis and surgery, besides bio-medical eye-technology. It will be equipped with operation theatre for that purpose. Addressing the concerned functionaries, the Chief Minister emphasized timely completion of this project, adding that there will be room for further expansion of the hospital, in view of the future requirements.

The Chief Minister further informed that there are also future plans to integrate this hospital with the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital and its academic set-up. If this happens, opportunities for medical education, clinical training and research will be expanded further. Highlighting the healthcare infrastructure of the state the Chief Minister said, the government has, in addition to improving healthcare facilities in Agartala, given importance to the facilities in the district and sub-divisional hospitals. Trauma Care Centres have been opened at Gornati, Dhalai and South Tripura district hospitals. Same facility will be soon introduced in North district hospital also. Approval has been given for the construction of new district hospital in Khowai and Sepahijala district. Intake capacity of Gomati district hospital has been more than doubled.

Referring to the statistics of health sector’s development, the Chief Minister said, bed capacity in AGMC and GBP Hospital has been increased from 727 to 1,413. Nine successful kidney transplants have been done. Initiative has been taken to launch heart and liver transplants in the future. A dedicated section for mother and children is being constructed at GBP Hospital and healthcare facilities for mother and children have been strengthened in Belonia. Resultantly the trend of referring patients outside the state has declined remarkably. Speaking about the digital integration in health service, the Chief Minister said, already digital patient registration has been started at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital and this system is being further expanded through IHMIS. With the integration of IHMIS with Health Command and Control Centre, real time data on available health facilities at different health centres of the state will be available and proper monitoring could be ensured through a dashboard. With this, hospital management and services will come under a coordinated digital platform.

Highlighting the occasion, Chief Minister remarked that Tripura has made noticeable progress in digital health system. Around 80 of the state’s population have ABHA ID. Patients’ names have been registered by using scan and share system. The doctors of AGMC can now consult the specialists of Delhi AIIMS through tele-consultation system. As a result people of the are not always being compelled to go outside the state for treatment. The Chief Minister also highlighted various initiatives in the field of medical education. He said, establishment of an independent Medical University in the state is under process. Dental College and Nursing College have become functional. Studies at the Homeopathic and Ayurvedic Medical College will start from next academic year. In the context of making healthcare accessible for the common people he said, lakhs of people have availed healthcare facility in cashless method under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Mukhyamantri Niramay Arogya Yojana is also getting good response. Then he mentioned about the healthcare of children and adolescents. He informed, under Total Vaccination Programme around 90 per cent children have been vaccinated.

Under “Mukhyamantri Sustha Shoishab O Sustha Koishore Abhiyan’ more than 10 lakh children and adolescents ageing between 1 to 19 years have been provided nutrition and healthcare. Under Rasthriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) large number of children are receiving healthcare in the form of test and treatment, Chief Minister said, the government is working with special emphasis on health security of common people.

Lunch at Rs. 10 only has been arranged for those accompanying the patients of GBP Hospital. A 100-bed night shelter has also been constructed for those coming from far-off places. Chief Minister Dr. Saha again said, due to the transparent, holistic and welfare-oriented healthcare policy of the government, people are showing more faith in the state’s healthcare system now. He was hopeful that this hospital will become a reliable option towards ensuring healthcare facility for people of the state.

In his welcome address, the health secretary Kiran Gitte said Tripura is marching towards fulfilling dreams of the people of the state. Under instructions of the Chief Minister, prompt action was taken for site selection, preparation of layout, fund procurement etc. since the last year, so that state’s people do not have to go out of the state for eye treatment. He hoped that the construction of the hospital will be completed within the stipulated time frame and people will surely benefit from it. Detailing further on the project he said, the hospital to be built with modern architecture will have 100 beds. All advanced health facilities will be available there. He said, facilities will include cataract surgery in modern laser technology, Comes transplant, diabetic retina treatment, glaucoma, eye issues by birth in children, oculoplasty and neuro-ophthalmology etc. Plans are there to offer treatment for general eye disease to complex diseases. He said, huge people in the country are suffering from blindness and eye-sight related issues. The state for a long time needed a full-fledged advanced eye hospital. He hoped that the upcoming hospital will serve that purpose.

A documentary on the modus operandi of IHMIS and expected transformations in healthcare was screened. A complete layout of the hospital and its advanced facilities were also depicted well.
