Dharmanagar, Tripura, 18th of April 2026 : An elderly man was seriously injured after colliding with a police vehicle that was reportedly parked in the dark in the Anandabazar area under Dharmanagar subdivision. The incident took place around 8:30 PM on Friday night on Tilthai Road.
The injured person has been identified as Babul Debnath (67), a resident of Rajnagar Colony.According to local sources, police officers were present at the spot investigating a previous accident at the time. Their vehicle (registration number TR02A 1051) was parked on one side of the road without adequate lighting.
At that moment, Babul Debnath was returning home on a bicycle from the Anandabazar side. Due to insufficient visibility, he failed to notice the stationary vehicle and crashed into it with force. The impact threw him off his bicycle, causing severe head injuries, and he collapsed on the spot in a bleeding condition.
Police personnel present at the scene immediately informed the Dharmanagar Fire Service. Firefighters arrived promptly, rescued the injured man, and rushed him to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have stated that he has sustained a serious head injury.Allegations of Misconduct with Journalists Meanwhile, journalists who arrived at the scene to cover the incident have alleged that the driver of the police vehicle behaved rudely and inappropriately with them. The incident has sparked anger among local residents.Questions are now being raised about the conduct of the driver and the role of the administration, especially after a common citizen was injured in an accident involving a police vehicle.
