
Agartala, Tripura, 18th of April 2026 : Gunjan Barman, a student of “Shruti Abritti Shiksha Kendra” in Tripura, has been awarded the only national scholarship in recitation under the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme (2025–26) of the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Gunjan is receiving training in recitation from noted elocutionist Smita Bhattacharya at “Shruti Abritti Shiksha Kendra”.
Gunjan Barman, daughter of Dr. Gopinath Barman and Manti Barman, is a Class VII student of Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir.
This year, out of a total of 634 scholarship recipients nationwide, 59 students from Tripura received scholarships, including only one in recitation.
Notably, in 2021–22, Shruti’s student Torsha Goswami became the only recipient in recitation across the country, followed by Indrakshi Poddar in 2022–23. In 2023–24, the scholarship was awarded to Shruti’s student Sharadiya Shil. In 2024–25, students Liyana Sarkar and Bhargav Majumder from “Shruti Abritti Charcha Kendra” also received the scholarship.
Last year, three students across the country received scholarships in recitation, of whom two were from Tripura’s “Shruti Abritti Shiksha Kendra” and one from West Bengal. Notably, since 2021–22, a total of eight students nationwide have received scholarships in recitation, and six of them are from “Shruti Abritti Shiksha Kendra”.
Gunjan’s achievement has sparked widespread and enthusiasm among her well-wishers and admirers of the art of recitation.
