Agartala, Tripura, 19th of November 2025 : Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited stepped into the prepaid smart meter system, shifting from the Post-paid system under Agartala Circle No. 1 on Wednesday (19th November, 2025).

The system was jointly inaugurated at the corporation’s corporate office in the NOMC room by Managing Director Biswajit Basu, AGM (Revenue) Mita Saha, AGM (DPNC) Shishir Debbarma, AGM of Agartala Circle No. 1 Pradip Sutradhar, AGM of Circle No. 2 Bikram Debbarma, DGM (DPNC) Sandeep Nandi Majumdar, along with other officials.
Addressing at the inauguration, the Managing Director of the Corporation said that this system consumer-friendly electricity system. In the first phase, the offices under Circle No. 1 have been shifted to prepaid smart meters. Gradually, other circles of the Corporation, government departments, and eventually the general consumers will also come under this facility.”
He also stated that a prepaid smart meter means complete control in the hands of the consumer. How many units have been used, how much balance remains, when a recharge is needed—consumers will be able to see everything daily. No guesswork, no running around. There is no risk of billing errors because the meter will calculate everything automatically. Another major relief is that there will be no need to wait for a meter reader. Everything will be available in a single app.

Consumers can recharge whenever they want—be it night or early morning. Since electricity usage details are visible at all times, wastage will naturally reduce, and awareness will increase. People will be able to manage their expenses according to their needs, which will ultimately lead to savings. This initiative by the Electricity Corporation is not just a technological upgrade but an effort to make consumers’ lives a little easier. This launch in Agartala is therefore like opening the door to the future—where services will be more accurate, more transparent, and the control will rest directly in the hands of the consumers.
