CPI(M) Holds Jail Bharo Protest In Dharmanagar, Left Leaders Raise 10-Point Demands Against Centre And State.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 10th of August, 2026 : The CPI(M) on Monday (10th August, 2026) organised a Jail Bharo protest in Dharmanagar, highlighting several public-interest demands and opposing various policies of the Central and State governments. A significant gathering of CPI(M) leaders, workers and supporters from the North District Committee was witnessed during the programme.

The protest was led by CPI(M) State Secretariat member Amitabh Dutta.Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Ratan Roy, North District Secretary Abhijit De, Yubarajnagar MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath, Kurti MLA Islam Uddin, along with several other leaders of the party’s North District Committee, were present at the programme.During the protest, CPI(M) leaders criticised various government policies. According to the party, rising prices, the employment crisis, farmers not receiving fair prices for their produce, increased electricity tariffs and allegations of corruption in various sectors are putting additional pressure on ordinary people. The party also raised issues concerning workers, farmers, students, youth and women.

The CPI(M) put forward a 10-point charter of demands during Monday’s agitation. Among the demands were the repeal of the labour codes, which the party described as anti-worker, along with ensuring 200 days of employment in the state at a daily wage of Rs 700. The party also demanded adequate employment under the TUEP scheme, reduction in the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and other essential commodities, and a guaranteed minimum support price for farmers’ produce.The party further demanded government-sponsored housing for poor and homeless families, urgent repair of dilapidated roads, including national highways, and withdrawal of the increased electricity tariffs. Other demands included scrapping smart meters, taking strict action against corruption at various levels, and bringing irregular employees under a regular pay structure.

The CPI(M) also called for an increase in workers’ wages, effective measures to stop violence against women and steps to ensure women’s safety. At the same time, the party demanded the speedy passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament.CPI(M) leaders said the objective of the agitation was to draw the government’s attention to the everyday problems faced by ordinary people and issues concerning public welfare. They claimed that the peaceful Jail Bharo programme in Dharmanagar was part of the party’s continuing movement against what it described as anti-people policies of the Central and State governments.
