Dharmanagar District Congress Observes International Day Of The World’s Indigenous Peoples.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 10th of August, 2026 : On the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Dharmanagar District Congress Committee organized a special programme on Sunday (9th August, 2026) morning.

The day was observed by Congress leaders and workers to honour the language, culture, traditions, rights and social contributions of indigenous communities. Party leaders and workers were present at the programme. Along with extending greetings on the occasion, various aspects of indigenous heritage and culture were highlighted. Congress leaders and supporters present at the event emphasized the need to protect the rights of indigenous communities.The Congress leadership stated that Tripura has always been a land of people belonging to diverse languages, cultures, traditions and communities. The distinct cultural heritage and traditions of the state’s 19 tribal communities have enriched Tripura’s social diversity. The contribution of indigenous communities in various fields, including environmental conservation, overall development of the state and the freedom struggle, is undeniable.

The Congress leaders stressed the importance of safeguarding the rights of indigenous communities over water, forests and land, along with ensuring their constitutional protections. They said that the rights, dignity and development of indigenous communities should not be considered only on a particular day but should remain a priority throughout the year. On behalf of the Tripura Pradesh Congress, a commitment was expressed to stand by indigenous communities in their struggle for their rights. An appeal was also made to work towards building a beautiful, inclusive, secure and harmonious Tripura.

Amidst the other distinguished leaders there were Dharmanagar District Congress President Nirupam Dey, members of the Pradesh Congress Committee, Block Congress leaders, leaders of the Mahila Congress, and several party workers and supporters. Highlighting the significance of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, they called for collective efforts to preserve indigenous culture and traditions and ensure their legitimate rights.
