Agartala, Tripura, 10th of May, 2025 : With the jointly initiative of Shantipara Senior Citizens Association and Ashwini Netralaya organized free eye treatment camp at Vivekananda Abas in Shantipara, Agartala, Tripura on Saturday (10th May, 2025). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the Camp today.

Addressing at the event Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that Elderly citizens are not a burden to our society. Need to broaden the scope of our respect, love and compassion for the elderly so that no more old age homes are built in the society. Need to stand by the elderly citizens as a social responsibility. He said that the spontaneity of the elderly is no less than that of the young. The urge to do something for the society can be observed in them. Organizing such eye treatment camps is undoubtedly a commendable initiative. The Chief Minister said that generally, to avoid eye problems, citizens need to get regular eye tests after the age of 40. However, in the current digital era, eye problems are also seen in children these days due to excessive use of mobile and internet.
At the event, the Chief Minister said that the decision to bring all senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, irrespective of their income, under health insurance of Rs 5 lakh was approved by the Union Cabinet in September 2024. Along with this, the state also has a system to provide special health benefits to citizens under the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana.

The Chief Minister also added that the that the current State Government has increased the amount of social allowance to Rs 2,000. In the financial year 2024-25, more than 4 lakh 8 thousand beneficiaries have been provided social allowance under various schemes. More than Rs 518 crore has been spent for this. In this budget of the State Government, there is a provision to launch a scheme called Chief Minister’s Scheme for Mentally Challenged Persons. Under this scheme, a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 will be provided to mentally challenged persons. In this case, those who are currently getting an allowance of Rs 2,000 will be given an additional monthly allowance of Rs 3,000.

Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) councilor Ratna Datta delivered the welcome speech at the event. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries participants there were Dr. Tapan Majumdar, Director of Health Services, Social Activist Shyamal Deb and many others remained present in the event. Narayan Chandra Saha, President of Senior Citizens Association delivered the vote of thanks. More than 110 patients have received free medical treatment.
