Agartala, Tripura, 3rd of August, 2026 : Hon’ble Governor of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu virtually participated in the “Nasha Mukt Yuva Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the state the event was held this morning at the Conference Hall of the Academic Building of Tripura Central University and was jointly organized by MY Bharat and Tripura Central University.
Addressing the gathering, Governor called upon every citizen of Tripura to actively participate in the campaign. He emphasized that the initiative is not merely a government programme but a people’s movement. He urged parents to make their children aware of the dangers of drug abuse, teachers to guide students on the right path, community leaders to set examples through their conduct, and young people to say “No” to drugs while inspiring their peers to do the same.
The Governor stated that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has been taking consistent and effective measures against drug addiction since 2014. He noted that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, as the nodal ministry for reducing drug demand, has formulated the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR). The comprehensive plan focuses on prevention, awareness generation, identification, counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals affected by substance abuse.
He further highlighted that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), launched on August 15, 2020, is one of the flagship initiatives under NAPDDR. Initially implemented in 272 drug-vulnerable districts across the country, the programme has now been expanded to all districts nationwide. According to the Governor, the initiative is built on three key pillars: controlling drug supply through the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), awareness and outreach activities through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and treatment and rehabilitation services through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Referring to Tripura’s geographical location and its sensitive international border, the Governor said the state remains particularly vulnerable to illegal drug trafficking. He warned that drug networks are actively targeting the youth, pushing them towards addiction and causing severe harm to their health, families, and society. He stressed that coordinated efforts by the Central and State Governments, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and the public are essential to eliminate this menace.
During the programme, the Governor administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge to all participants. Among others present at the event were Prof. Debabrata Das, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura Central University; Tapan Kumar Das, Special Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department; Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura; Mehboob Alam Laskar, Director of MY Bharat Tripura; MY Bharat volunteers; faculty members and students of Tripura Central University; and other distinguished guests.
