Mumbai, Maharashtra, 15th of October, 2026 : As Indian consumers increasingly aspire to better health and a balanced lifestyle, awareness about nutrition is growing. However, this awareness is yet to translate into meaningful changes in everyday dietary habits. A study by PepsiCo India and Euromonitor International has revealed that adequate protein and fibre intake continues to be a major challenge in urban India.
According to the study, conducted among 1,250 people across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Kochi, 70% of respondents consume less than 41 grams of protein daily, while 61% fall short of the recommended daily fibre intake. Interestingly, despite growing awareness about nutrition, a lack of accurate information continues to contribute to the problem. The study found that 60% of respondents cited the high cost of protein-rich foods, while 57% identified a lack of convenient options as major barriers to adequate nutrition.
Dr. Ankita Marwah of PepsiCo India said, “Awareness alone is not enough. It is essential to translate reliable nutritional information into practical choices that people can incorporate into their everyday lives.”

Dilip Radhakrishnan of Euromonitor International added, “Conversations around nutrition should not be limited to raising awareness; they must also help people understand their actual nutritional requirements.”
The study’s message is clear: improving nutrition requires not only accurate and reliable information but also affordable, accessible and trustworthy food options that make balanced eating easier to adopt in everyday life.
