Sepahijala, Tripura, 1st of September, 2025 : Sepahijala District Police, in joint operations with BSF, TSR battalions, Forest officials, and other agencies, carried out a massive crackdown on illicit Cannabis (Ganja) cultivation on 31st August 2025 from early of the morning at various locations of the district.

In the Jatrapur PS area, acting on secret inputs, Inspector Smriti Kanta Bardhan, Officer in Charge of Jatrrapur Police station along with personnel of the 9th Battalion TSR destroyed 12 nursery plots, eliminating nearly 2 lakh saplings in the deep forest areas at South Moheshpur, Katalia under Sonamura Sub division.
Simultaneously, a large-scale destruction operation was conducted under Sonamura Police station leading by Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge Sonamura Police Station covering Matinagar GP, Bijoy Nagar ADC Village, Khatamura and Batadola forest land with active support from 81 BN BSF (Batadola, Matinagar, Kulubari, NC Nagar BOPs), Sonamura & Boxanagar Forest teams, 9th BN TSR, 7th BN TSR and other sister agencies. A total of 19 illicit Ganja plots spread over 35 acres were destroyed, uprooting approximately 2.28 lakh plants.
In total, over 4,28 lakh Ganja saplings/plants were destroyed, marking one of the largest illegal Ganja (Cannabis) destruction drive in one day in the District. Beside this during the entire month of August 2025 Sepahijala District Police by continue enforcement drives also destructed approximately 791000 Nos illegal Ganja (Cannabis) saplings covering over 30 Aers (apprx) of land and 495000 Nos immature Ganja (Cannabis) plants under Bishalgarh, Bisharmganj, Melagahar and Kalamehowra PSs. District Police reiterated its commitment to a drug-free society through strict continuous enforcement measures
