Inauguration Of 180-Hour Residential LMV Driving Course (Batch-II) For Unemployed Youth Under IGDC CREFLAT Project.

Agartala, Tripura, 11th of June 2026 : The IGDC CREFLAT Project under the Department of Forest, Government of Tripura, inaugurated the 180-Hour Residential Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Driving Course (Batch-II) at the Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR), Jirania, West Tripura, on 8th June, 2026.

The programme has been designed to equip unemployed youth from project villages under the Damcherra Forest Range, North Tripura, with essential driving skills and enhance their livelihood opportunities through structured residential training. The initiative is being implemented with the vision of “Empowering Youth, Building Skills, Driving a Better Tomorrow.”

The inaugural ceremony commenced at 12:00 noon with a traditional welcome and ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Shri S. Prabhu, IFS, Chief Executive Officer and Project Director, IGDC CREFLAT Project, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of skill development initiatives in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural youth.

Dr. Vincent Darlong, DCTA, PMC, IGDC, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the significance of skill-based training in improving employability and promoting socio-economic development. He also underscored the importance of driving ethics and the responsibilities associated with being a professional driver.

Welcoming the participants, Shri KanojDebbarma, Principal, IDTR, Jirania, encouraged the trainees to make effective use of the opportunity and build sustainable livelihoods through the acquisition of professional driving skills.

Shri Pradeep Krishna Raj, IAS, Director, Skill Development, briefed the participants on various government schemes and initiatives aimed at supporting youth through skill development and employment generation in driving-related professions.

The programme also featured an address by the Guest of Honour, Smt. Banumathi G., IFS, CEO & Project Director, Tripura JICA (SCATFORM) Project, who motivated the participants to pursue the training with dedication and confidence as they embark on a new career path.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. W. Bhutia, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (Monitoring & Evaluation), Tripura, who emphasized the importance of hard work, discipline, and continuous skill enhancement in achieving personal and professional success.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Shri TirthankarMajumder, Senior Technical Officer, PMA, IGDC.

A major highlight of the programme was the Technology Showcase, which included a guided tour of the simulator room and a live demonstration of the advanced training facilities available at IDTR.

The 180-hour residential training programme will provide participants with comprehensive instruction in LMV driving, road safety awareness, traffic regulations, vehicle maintenance basics, and simulator-based practical training. The initiative reflects the commitment of the Forest Department and the IGDC CREFLAT Project towards strengthening rural livelihoods and empowering unemployed youth through market-oriented skill development and capacity-building interventions.
